How do i go about asking a girl out?

I have known this girl through school, and there was a rumor in school (2 years ago) that i was stalking her (which i did not do at all). Well the last day before we graduated 8th grade i gave her a note saying i was sorry for anything that i did to hurt her and that from now on we will act like we dont know each other. I really like her and i want to know if i'd have a chance at asking her out. Yet of course i wouldn't do it bluntly.
